Problem:
Families in Sulu and Tawi-Tawi are arranging early and forced marriages because of strong social pressures to avoid shame and protect family honor. Premarital relationships, pregnancy, or even being seen with the opposite sex can lead to gossip and community judgment, pushing parents to marry off their children quickly to prevent disgrace and uphold their family's reputation.
High Level Goal:
To reduce early and forced marriages driven by social norms of shame, honor, and community judgment.
Behaviour to change:
Parents and families delay immediate marriage decisions and explore alternative solutions when faced with situations that could bring shame, such as premarital relationships, pregnancy, or elopement.
