High levels of unsorted waste and low recycling rates due to flat-rate waste collection systems that don’t incentivize waste reduction or proper sorting.
High Level Goal:
To create a fair and sustainable waste management system that reduces overall waste generation, increases recycling, and promotes environmental responsibility.
Behaviour to change:
Encourage households and businesses to produce less waste and sort recyclables properly by linking waste collection costs directly to the amount of waste they generate (e.g., pay-per-bag or bin weighing).
